It’s been a big year for Australian property, with demand for housing reaching the highest levels on record.
But amid all the talk about #smashedavo and housing affordability, there were a number of trends which slipped under the radar in 2016.

Affordability has no doubt been the hottest topic of the year, especially amongst first home buyers.
It even triggered a somewhat tongue in cheek discussion about whether young people should be eatingsmashed avocado when saving for a home.
But first-time buyers, especially in Sydney and Melbourne, do face increased financial challenges.
Apartments were also thrust into the spotlight this year particularly in the CBDs of Melbourne and Brisbane, where we have never seen so much development.
